Archive

For immediate release: Goedhuis & Co the fine wine merchant today announces it has wholly acquired the business of David Roberts Domaines, whose founder David Roberts MW, will become a Director of the new combined entity.

Commenting on the news, Chairman of Goedhuis & Co. Johnny Goedhuis said, “The prospect of an exceptional 2009 Bordeaux vintage and the impact that will have on wine sales makes the timing of this acquisition perfect as we create a powerhouse of buying talent and benefit from an enlarged customer base.

“This move consolidates our position as one of the leading fine wine merchants in the country by size, but just as importantly, it brings David’s expertise into the business to strengthen further our relationships with the growers. Our aim is to be the merchant of choice for producers and clients alike.”

Before founding David Roberts Domaines, David was Buying Director at Berry Brothers & Rudd where he gained his Master of Wine, moving to be the Senior Wine Buyer at Lay & Wheeler before setting up David Roberts Domaines in 2005. The business is a specialist private client wine business focusing on the classic wines of France and in particular, Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone. Based in Suffolk, the business is well placed to service the East of England, adding another geographical advantage to the Goedhuis & Co. operation.

David Roberts added, “By joining with Goedhuis & Co. we bring new dimensions to the business such as our wine investing service and the wine school, whilst my clients will benefit from their investment in infrastructure to ensure every efficiency in finance and logistics leaving me to concentrate on doing what I do best, which is sourcing fine wines from great producers and providing a very personal service to my clients.”

With the growing demand throughout the world, fine wine is becoming an increasingly popular form of investment, offering investment diversification as well as the opportunity for positive tax free returns. Goedhuis & Co.’s Hong Kong office provides a timely platform for David Robert’s wine investing service as the Far East continues to dominate the fine wine market.

Ends.
