These are exciting times at one of our favourite Chianti Classico growers, Riecine.
A recent change in ownership and injection of investment, followed by the installment of a young and hugely talented winemaker in Alessandro Campatelli, have all played their part in helping Riecine become one of central Tuscany’s leading wineries.
This was one of the most captivating visits on our recent Tuscan trip. Across the whole range the wines are simply stellar. We have selected two that particularly stand out.
The 2014 Chianti Classico is the dream Tuscan drinker. Packed full of focused red fruits, notably red cherry, raspberry and cranberry, the 2014 is vibrant, silky and pure with wonderful elegance on the palate. It’s incredibly versatile and at just over £16 a bottle is outstanding value. It’s a true favourite of the team here and a top recommendation for home drinking this autumn.
The next step up in the range is the prize single vineyard, 2013 Riecine di Riecine IGT. Just 7000 bottles are made of this beauty from the estate’s finest grapes and it is released in only the best years. This is an absolute humdinger; 100% Sangiovese and a wine of considerably richness and breed with wonderful elegance and freshness on the palate.
The 2014 Chianti Classico is here in stock and ready to enjoy immediately. The 2013 Riecine de Riecine, of which stock is more limited, is available to pre order right now for delivery from February next year when we feel that it will be perfect to drink.

Hailing from Riecine’s finest site, the single vineyard, Riecine di Riecine, is the ultimate expression of the Sangiovese grape and the essence of Gaiole terroir. Stylistically there’s additional richness and structure to the intense red fruit flavours supported by super fine tannins and plenty of freshness. Only 7000 bottles are produced of this masterpiece.
