En Primeur | St Aubin

Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicate Puligny. In recent years quality has been soaring and St Aubin is getting the attention it rightly deserves.

Toasty, praline nose. Quite sophisticated. Plenty of oak here but the fruit is lush and plentiful and expressive and all this needs is time. Lots of exciting promise here. (TC)

Situated to the south of the St Aubin appellation and bordering two Puligny Montrachet Premiers Crus, the south-west facing Dents de Chien vineyards are highly prized. After twelve months of careful élévage, this is an exuberant white with a beguiling nose of confit lemon, succulent apricots and just a hint of toasted hazelnuts. Whilst rich and weighty, the vibrancy and freshness at the wine’s core ensures this is a highly poised Chardonnay.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2025, Score: 17.5

With more grip and tension than many other examples of this style, there is ample opportunity for this wine to evolve and blossom without peaking too soon, and from the Chassagne/Saint-Aubin/Puligny sector, it was easily one of the finest value while maintaining a degree of control and classicism while hinting at discreet grandeur.

Pale lemon colour. The bouquet has a little more precision than Les Combes, staying in the apple orchard register, I like the interplay of fruit and acidity on the palate, with the citrus wash frequently to be found this year, and this is more persistent.

  • GWL, December 2024

The Lamy-Pillot family has half a hectare of this prestigious Premier Cru, sitting on the border of Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Le Chaumée. The white stone fruit and jasmine scent intertwine perfectly alongside the herbal mint and thyme characters. This is so inviting, with notes of pannacotta and guernsey cream, and a rewarding lift of zesty freshness on the finish.

This Premier Cru vineyard borders Chassagne Montrachet, with vines that have the deep-rooted structure of its more famous neighbour. A lively nose of limoncello and sherbet lemon. A creamy viscous mid palate, with giving sensations of noisettes and guava. The finish is one of substance with a fine appellational character giving depth and weight.
