The Gaja name is synonymous with pioneering innovation in Barbaresco, where pushing back on the rules helped raise the quality and profile of the wines of Barbaresco, allowing them to compete on the global stage shoulder-to-shoulder with their famous neighbour, Barolo.
As the family known for shunning rules and regulations in favour of quality and innovation, the home of the rule-breaking ‘Super-Tuscans’ was a logical and passionate move for the Gaja family, who’s attention to detail and focus on quality extended to the decision on where to establish themselves; the ‘house of endless negotiations’ (Ca’marcanda in Italian) took 18 visits to negotiate and purchase.
