  • Goedhuis, December 2022

Made from vines situated in Petits Epenots, this is a striking wine, combining flamboyance and charm. Wild berry, blackberry and apple characters. Very layered, the initial scent and charm give way to bolder depth and weight. It builds on the palate and, despite the obvious power, it is finely layered, with a lovely personality of nuanced spice and nutmeg on the finish. Excellent.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 90-93

Mid crimson colour. Not one of the more ebullient noses at first, on its reserve. Plenty of weight of fresh fruit a little bit of fresh orange, otherwise raspberry and redcurrant, no great weight at the back but good length. This needs and will get a longer elevage. Drink from 2027-2033.

Château de Meursault has gone through some very exciting developments under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, whose family themselves own a highly respected domaine in Aloxe Corton. The vineyards under the Château’s ownership cover an extraordinary 65 hectares, from Savigny Lès Beaune through to Meursault. In 2019 the estate was certified as fully organic, quite an achievement for a domaine of this size, covering so many fine appellations. Against the backdrop of the property’s historical origins, with Cistercian cellars dating back to the 12th century, this dynamic domaine is investing extensively in both the vineyards and the winery, reaching new heights in quality. Stéphane’s wines are classically made. The Chardonnay is fermented in barrel and aged on lees for 12 months before bottling. The reds are beautiful wines, with all the dimensions to age.Read less

Region

Pommard

A long popular appellation, Pommard is yet another exclusive red wine area which produces by far the most structured reds of the Côte de Beaune. It extracts rich body and long ageing potential from the limestone/iron-rich clay soil. Some examples can be markedly rustic, yet as time has passed and winemaking know-how has improved, Pommard's wines are becoming softer and more approachable when young. Its vines cover 317 hectares of which over a third are premier cru vineyards. Several have pronounced following and even one, Les Rugiens, is being pushed to become a grand cru.
