Vinous, February 2025, Score: 90
The 2023 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a total delight. Fresh, aromatic and vibrant, Ornellaia’s Sangiovese-based blend delivers the goods in an affordable package. A burst of bright, red-toned fruit opens first, followed by scents of tobacco, cedar and dried herbs. This classy, polished red is very nicely done. There’s a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend these days, and it works quite well. Drinking date: 2025-2030

Jane Anson, Februray 2025, Score: 92
Best Value: Le Volte Dell’Ornellaia 2023. A blanket of crushed rose petals on the opening beats, good lift and freshness here, love the raspberry fruits. This is a great value entry to the Ornellaia range, and more appealing than many Super Tuscans that are many times the price - a real buy, and one of the secrets of Tuscany in my opinion. Earthy, spicy, fruity, fresh, neutral barrels for 10 months. Lighter bottle as of this 2023 vintage. Drink: 2025 - 2036
Region
Bolgheri
The medieval town of Bolgheri was originally made famous by the poet Giosuè Carducci who wrote about the stunning Cypress Avenue, a breathtaking and magical three mile long corridor of trees leading up to the entrance to the village. Swept away to the coastal and most westerly area of Tuscany, Bolgheri has become synonymous with wines known as ‘Super Tuscans'. Composed of classic Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc (intermixed with the occasional Sangiovese), the Super Tuscans began as mere experimentation in the 1960s and 70s. These international French varieties flourished in Bolgheri's warm, yet maritime climate which resulted in unexpected success and reknown. It is here that one finds such famous names as Ornellaia, Tignanello and Sassicaia.
