  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, July 2025

A very classy expression of this famous appellation, from vineyards planted between 1909 and 1965. Bright and lifted floral aromatics, with citrus fruits undertones. On the palate, the richness and depth of fruit evolve, with flavours of pannacotta and freshly whipped cream. An appealing structure and long flavoursome finish reminiscent of freshly cracked hazelnuts. Delicious.

  • Neal Martin, June 2025, Score: 91-93

The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos du Roy is aged for 12 months in barrel on the lees without SO2, and then in tank for a further six months. This has a lovely nose with citrus fruit, hints of candy floss and wild peach—very seductive and nicely defined. The palate is well balanced with a discreet bitter lemon note on the entry, quite linear with good weight and girth on the finish imparted by the clayey soils. Very fine.

Domaine Dominique Cornin

There is so much that makes Domaine Cornin, from the village of Chaintré in Macon, special. Father and son, Dominique and Romain, are men of the soil. Their attitude is summed up by Romain’s ambition for the estate, “accomplishing my dream to become a vigneron fills me with a sense of freedom: The freedom to spend my days, as I see fit, in the thick of my vines, true to my father’s work philosophy and his love of the soil. ...Read more

At his side, I aspire to create a wine that reflects who I am and that I enjoy sharing.” They have been organic practitioners since 2000, something of a rarity in the Maconnais. Their ideology is to show to all the true expression of both the fruit and the soil. These wines are a joy, sourced from some of the oldest vineyards in the region. There is complete respect to individual terroirs and they have an excitement to them, fresh and bright but also juicy and warming.Read less

Region

Pouilly-Fuissé

At the southern tip of the Mâconnais lies Pouilly Fuisse - one of a group of five villages amid rolling limestone hills producing the most serious white wines in the area. At their best this is serious Chardonnay indeed, golden, rich and ripe. There is no hierarchy of wines in Pouilly Fuisse, but the appellation name may be followed by the name of a specific vineyard.
