  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

La Garenne sits on the higher slopes of Puligny and produces a remarkably harmonious wine, often earlier drinking than some other wines from this commune. The 55-year-old vines, lend themselves to making a very composed wine, with strikingly intense flavours. A marriage of quince, lime and yellow stone fruit, in a direct and structured style. A very rewarding impression of seashore salinity, both refreshing and cleansing on the palate. Wonderful persistence on the finish.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2025, Score: 16.5

Stone-fruit sweetness, stone-fruit cut and chisel, stone-fruit stones. Liquorice and taffeta texture. Taut and almost brittle until it snaps and then the sweetness floods in and the wine chooses to charm.

  • Jasper Morris MW, October 2024, Score: 90-93

Mid lemon yellow. The Garenne seems riper and softer than the previous wines, with some yellow plums, but still the delicacy of all the Sauzet wines this year, and with an agreeable, almost floral, long finish. Ripe citrus zest on the nose. The Sauzet team work the vines and buy the grapes.

Region

Puligny Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
