In the latest edition of Decanter Jeannie Cho Lee MW previews the whites from the 2012 vintage in Burgundy. Plenty has been said about the trials and tribulations in the vineyard and the resulting reduction in quantity. But what of the wines?
Jeannie comments “If ever there were a year to heed expert opinion before buying, this is it… The final result from the harsh growing conditions is an uneven vintage for whites with wines that range from great to disappointing – sometimes even within the same grower’s portfolio.”
A few of the wines we are selling have made it onto her short list:
Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin 2012
Austere nose but the palate is powerful: full of tension and minerality. A delightful mix of silex and graphite. Long finish. Drink 2016 – 2024
Meursault Chevalieres Jean-Philippe Fichet 2012 (always one of our favourites here at Goedhuis!!)
Beautiful with vibrant flavours of almonds, white flowers and crunchy nectarines balanced by fresh acidity. Long, lingering finish. Drink 2016 – 2023
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Perrieres Jaques Carillon 2012 (this will be released later than the majority of the 2012 Burgundies)
Concentrated, lively and intense with a wonderful balance between focussed acidity and ripe stone fruits. From 38-year-old vines. Drink 2017 – 2025
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Combettes Etienne Sauzet 2012
Elegant, with balanced acidity and gentle flavours of apricots and jasmine flowers. lively acidity on the palate with a fairly long finish. Drink 2015 – 2022.
