At the forefront of the modern Rioja movement since its inception some thirty years ago, Bodegas Roda has striven for excellence. Situated in the heart of the Haro region, on a bend overlooking the Ebro River, the bodega has relentlessly pursued its aim to produce the very best wines it can. Uncompromising but not afraid to combine the best practices of the past with their own techniques, they fuse tradition and modernity with rare skill, and the results are superb.
Roda’s vineyards consist of 28 blocks of old Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano vines situated in some of the best sites of La Rioja Alta. Yields are low and after a rigorous selection process only the highest quality fruit is vinified in separate vats, the emphasis being on allowing each plot to fully express its origin both of the vineyard and vintage.
“Each grape should capture, down to the last detail, the landscape in which it is grown, the heat of September, the cool nights of October.. the fragrance of the herbs in surrounding fields, the sensations in the soil where the grapes grow, the darkness of the subsoil in which the roots penetrate. The tiniest hints mingle to make each vintage different, and our aim consists in knowing how to interpret these and how to bring them out through the wine” Mario Rotllant Sola – Proprietor

96% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano, 1% Garnacha, aged 12 months in second fill French oak barrels. Bright ruby. Fragrant aromas of ripe red berries, candied rose and incense. Spicy and penetrating in the mouth, offering juicy flavors of raspberry, bitter cherry and allspice. Shows very good focus and lift–and repeating red fruit and floral notes–on the long, gently tannic finish. This wine went through its secondary fermentation in large French oak foudres and was then moved into small, used French oak barrels for another year.

100% tempranillo, aged for 16 months in French oak, 50% of it new : Saturated ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes fresh raspberry, cherry-cola, Asian spices and smoky minerals. Juicy, penetrating and seamless on the palate, offering intense red and dark fruit and spice-cake flavours given spine by zesty minerality. The spicy quality gains power with air and carries through a long, sappy finish that shows just a hint of tannins.

100% Tempranillo from 30 year old bush vines, aged 16 months in French oak barrels, 20 months in bottle. Deep ruby. Sexy, high-pitched aromas of black raspberry, cherry-cola, Asian spices and tabacco, with slow-mounting minerality. Juicy, sharply focused red fruit flavors show an alluring sweetness and pick up notes of allspice and candied rose with air. Sweeter still on the finish, which is smooth, sappy and extremely long. This will be a beauty in a few years but it’s actually very easy to drink now.
