When we introduced the Tuscan ‘Bordeaux blend’ Tassinaia 2009 last year, it struck a real chord with our clients. Its moderate pricing for a wine of such high quality really resonated with anyone seeking great value Tuscan wines. Sadly our stocks of the 2009 are now depleted but we are delighted to announce the release of the new 2010 vintage which will be shipped from Tuscany in June.
The 2010 Vintage
Many of you will already be aware of the extremely high quality of the 2010 vintage in Tuscany and the way that it flirted with perfection across the whole region. In the key central areas of Montalcino, Montepulciano and Chianti, 2010 was a simply brilliant benchmark year and one that deserves a place in any cellar. For the coastal producers surrounding Bolgheri, including famous names such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia, we have witnessed some of the finest releases in decades.
The Wine
Stylistically there are significant differences between 2009 and 2010. 2009 was a joy to drink upon arrival; forward, round and exuding Tuscan sunshine in a glass. 2010 is conversely a dark, brooding wine with a substantial tannic structure. It is incredibly well balanced and refined and will require at least 3 years in the cellar but will soften and develop wonderful mature Bordeaux-esque flavours over the next decade. It is a masterpiece in the making and is destined to be remembered as the finest Tassinaia release to date.
2010 Tassinaia, Castello del Terriccio
£115 per 6 bottles In Bond | £153 inc vat
£55 per Single Magnum In Bond | £71 inc vat Very Limited
Tassinaia is a blend of equal measures of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The 2010 is a firm structured wine oozing blackberry, blackcurrant, herb and tar aromas with tobacco, cedar, and vanilla notes. The palate is tense with firm ripe tannins and a dense, rich core. In time these tannins will soften to reveal classic Bordeaux-esque cigar and cedar flavours. A true Tuscan gem. Drink 2019 – 2028.
