Bordeaux 2005’s starting to arrive on UK soil

Archive

James Suckling at Wine Spectator has followed the 2005’s with great enthusiasm whilst also being aware of the rapidly increasing prices.

At the time he speculated that “The 2005 vintage will go down in history books as a superlative year for Bordeaux.” Following his recent trip to Bordeaux to evaluate the finished 2005’s in a blind tasting he merited an unprecedented eight wines at a perfect 100 points – seven reds and one dry white. Hundreds of outstanding wines also scored 90 points and above.

James Suckling’s 100 point wines:
Ch Ausone 1er Grand Cru Classé, St Emilion
Ch Haut Brion 1er Cru, Pessac-Léognan
Ch Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan
Ch L’Evangile, Pomerol
Ch Lafleur, Pomerol
Ch Leoville Lascases, 2ème Cru St Julien
Ch Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux
Ch Petrus, Pomerol

“There is no doubt that taken as a whole, Bordeaux 2005 is the world’s most expensive young vintage ever. But it is also one of the best from France’s premier wine region.”

Many of our 2005’s have arrived at Octavian and are at present being transferred into Private Reserves. We will be starting to deliver the 2005’s at the beginning of May.
