After seeing the bottle chiller “CellarDine CaddyO” from the Wineware website I was intrigued and decided to try it myself.
A friend of mine had organised a BBQ at the Spitalfields City Farm to celebrate her first year running a charity called Mike’s Table, so it was a brilliant opportunity to bring a chilled bottle of Chablis to toast. The charity collects food that would otherwise go to waste and gives the opportunity for people to enjoy a restaurant quality experience who would not usually be able to afford it. I have been a supporter since the early days and always felt that what they do is fantastic. Their team of volunteers work very hard and put on a professional service, all with a smile on their faces.
To drink I brought one of my favourite Chardonnays, a classic steely Chablis from Jean-Paul and Benoit Droin, vintage 2015, drinking beautifully right now.
The CaddyO comes with a removable container which you must place in the freezer for at least four hours before you plan to use it. You can fit a standard 0.75cl bottle or 1l bottle, however when I tried to use it for a German Riesling the longer shaped bottle would not fit in the case (and of course no large formats either). At 5:30pm I put the bottle in the CaddyO and walked from the office on Bermondsey Street up to Spitalfields City farm. It’s an incredible place, if you have kids in your family I would highly recommend it. An escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, immersing yourself in the green of the vegetable gardens, flowers and trees, you are greeted by the calm and colours of the nature.
As soon as I got there I took the bottle out to see if it was chilled enough to toast to the great BBQ ahead. CaddyO did not disappoint me! Easy to carry (a strap is included) and not heavy to hold on my shoulder, it chilled the bottle from cellar temperature keeping it cool for long hours.
There is also no need to worry if you have forgotten a corkscrew, the CaddyO comes with one attached in a nifty side pocket. The quality of design and material is sturdy and practical. You can get it online and it comes only under £30 from www.wineware.co.uk
CaddyO is a great accessory for enjoying chilled wine with no hassle or worry about having ice at a picnic or having to drink the bottle quickly before it gets warm, you can take your time and enjoy at your own pace. The only concern is to remember to chill the cooler in the freezer in advance.
As luck would have it I saw this online and I cannot recommend this product highly enough, take your time, relax, and you will be chilled and happy!
