Christmas Day drinking

Archive

I know that there will be no shortage of good wine this festive season as I have been put in charge of sorting out the Christmas drinks! Christmas is our busiest time so I haven’t had the time to order the wines I’ll be drinking on Christmas Day. I like to have plenty of easy drinking wine around, like our Chianti Classico Il Molino di Grace and Menetou Salon Domaine Henry Pellé.

In the Griffiths’ household Christmas Day kicks off with something sparkly. I recently tasted a Laurent Perrier 1990, which was delicious, but I think we will go for a Louis Roederer Non-Vintage. Once the turkey is in (I’m cooking this year!) I’ll open a tasty white: Dry Slate Riesling Kabinett Dry 2007 by Helmut Dönnhoff. I have always loved German Riesling. The producer made a rare visit to London recently, and I have been dying to open one of his wines ever since.

Normally we would have a big Bordeaux with lunch. This year however, I am tempted to try the ‘A Rina Etna Rosso, from Girolamo Russo. We tasted the top cuvees at lunch on Monday (the San Lorenzo and the Feudo) and, although a bit young, they were extremely delicious. I am hoping that the “˜A Rina will prove to be just as good.
