A number of our Italian Stallions were awarded stars by Decanter in their August issue. Unsurprisingly, Riecine’s Chianti Classico 2008 received 4 bright stars and 18 points.

“Floral and leather perfume with candied red fruit. Crisp acidity and fine tannins. Drink 2011-2015. Alc.: 14%”

In the Barolo panel tasting, Fratelli Revello shone forth. Their Roche dell’Annunziata la Morra won 5 stars with 18.83 points.

“Classic nose with hints of savoury, truffle, meat, good oak, vanilla, blackberry and prune. Concentrated, full-bodied style with dry, firm tannins with high acidity framing dark, deep fruit. Needs time but all the elements are there. Drink: 2015- 2025. Alc.: 14.5%”

In the 4 star category, coming Highly Recommended by tasting panel, Emily O’Hare, Nick Adams MW, Stephen Brook, Jane Hunt MW, Annette Scarfe, Anthony Rose, Peter McCombie MW, Margaret Rand, Andy Howard and Philippe Messy, Revello’s 4 other wines, Vigna Gattera La Morra, Vigna Giachini La Morra, Vigna Conca La Morra and straight Barolo all scored highly:

Cavallotto’s Bricco Boschis earned 3 stars: “Ripe cherry, roasted coffee and dried sage aroma. Juicy and approachable in the context of the vintage, with zesty acidity, high savoury tannins and a long finish. Drink: 2012-2014. Alc.:14.5%”
