Decanter recommends Syrah

Archive

Several of our wines made into a recent list of Decanter’s best and best value Syrah’s in the world. Here they are:

Colombier, Cuvée Gaby, Crozes-Hermitage 2007 ****17
Sweet, ripe blackcurrant nose. Medium-bodied but ripe and lively, fresh and not extracted, youthful and poised. Drink 2011-2014.

Unfortunately the 2007 is now sold out but we have a couple of cases of the equally delicious Crozes Hermitage Cuvee Gaby Domaine de Colombier 2005 left in stock.

Pierre Gaillard, Clos de Cuminaille, St. Joseph 2006 ****17
Meaty, savoury nose. Spicy and concentrated, with black fruits and some menthol; vigorous and fresh. Quite long. Drink 2011-2015.

Clos des Cazaux, Cuvée des Templiers, Vacqueyras 2006 ****16.5
Elegant plum and mint nose. Quite concentrated, refreshed by good acidity, supported by ripe tannins; long lively finish. Drink 2011-2014.

Both the 2006 and 2007 are now sold out but we have received a small shipment of the Vacqueyras Cuvée des Templiers Clos des Cazaux 2008.

The vineyards of Clos de Cazaux

Château St. Jacques d’Albas, La Chapelle, Minervois 2006 ****17
This cuvee is almost pure Syrah, which is unusual for the Minervois, with just 5% Grenache added. The nose is firm, dense and peppery, while the palate has a fresh note, with some peppery fruit, good depth, and a long finish. Nicely balanced, with plenty of ageing potential. Drink 2011-2015.

For the Cellar:

St. Joseph Cuvee Papy Domaine de Monteillet 2009
Expressive depth.

Côte Rôtie Fortis Domaine de Monteillet 2009 (SOLD OUT)
Showed quality from these terraced vineyards.
