Following on from the recent release of Sassicaia 2014, we are delighted to offer two exceptional drinking wines from the Tenuta San Guido stable: Guidalberto and Le Difese 2015.
These are must haves for all Super Tuscan lovers, offering outstanding value for money. They come with top flight pedigree, are from an outstanding vintage and, offer the drinker something magnificent for less than £27 per bottle.
As ever, the Guidalberto and Le Difese releases are one vintage ahead of Sassicaia. This year we are delighted to offer the hotly anticipated 2015 vintage. Though these particular wines have not yet been rated by the critics, there is a level of excitement building around 2015. Suckling has given 2015 Sassicaia 97-98 calling it “potentially one of the best Sassicaias in decades”, which puts the quality spotlight firmly on these two wines:
- Guidalberto is the second wine of Sassicaia, blending Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon. Whilst it can be approached sooner than its sibling, great vintages such as 2015 will develop beautifully over time. Coming in at £26.50 per bottle, this is quality not to be missed.
- Le Difese takes its name from the local wild boar which roam the hills of Bolgheri and appear on its label. This is easy drinking and has lots of juicy red fruits; a delicious blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese – a great buy at £15.50 per bottle.
Don’t overlook these wines, they will sell out very quickly.

The blend is 70% Cabernet, with the remainder being Sangiovese from bought in fruit. The 2015 is very much a vin de soif, with crisp acidity and a palate of easy drinking, juicy red fruits. This is well made but not overly complex and, as designed, is ready to drink now and over the next two years. Alc: 13% John Stimpfig, Decanter

Sassicaia’s second wine, first created in 2000 by Nicolo Incisa and Sebastiano Rosa from estate-grown fruit, some of which comes from younger vines and is a little lower in altitude. The blend is also significantly different, comprising 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot to create a wine which is clearly more approachable than the Tenuta’s grand vin. Nonetheless, this is a seriously good wine from an extremely good vintage. In addition to soft plump tannins, this exhibits freshness as well as generous plum and black cherry fruit. Tobacco and cedar notes lead onto a fine, tapering finish. Alc: 13.5% John Stimpfig, Decanter
