Always a pleasure spotting our wines in Wine Spectator- especially when they’re ones that really are wonderful and no one seems to know enough about them… André et Michel Quenard!!! How I want to meet them hopefully at our Portfolio Tasting in November. They produce one of the most famous Chignin-Bergerons, a top Savoie cru produced with the Roussanne grape which offers spicy, honeyed notes like those in the Rhône but in a much more ethereal and lifted way. It’s an interesting wine that finishes long, supple and clean- perfect for this muggy weather. Wine Spectator says:
91 points: André & Michel Quenard Vin de Savoie Chignin-Bergeron 2010, “A rich and complex white, with concentrated flavours of baked apple, pear, citrus peel and beeswax that are pure and fresh-tasting. the lush finish features notes of peach cobbler that show exotic spicy accents. Drink now through 2020.”
Other notes include:
89 Points: Boscarelli Vino nobile di Monepulciano Riserva 2007, “Ripe, boasting black cherry and plum notes, this red is soft until the stiff tannins emerge. Stays bright, without a lot of complexity. Drink now through 2020.”
90 points: Riecine Chainti Classico 2009, “A rich version, exhibiting cherry, strawberry and rhubarb flavours allied to a vibrant structure. Harmonious and long, with dusty tannins under the fruit and spice aftertaste. best from 2013 through 2020.” (£15.08/bt)
89 points: Manincor Alto Adige Terlano Réserve della Contessa 2010, “Fresh herb and ground spice notes mix with flavours of freshly cut apple, white peach, melon rind and spicy mineral. There’s fine definition and texture here, but set in a light-weigth, streamlined form, with a tangy finish. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2015”
