Wine vs Diamonds

Archive

A few months ago we were approached by an old friend of mine, Narda Shirley at Gong Communications as to whether we would get involved in an event they were planning. In the intervening months they have done the most brilliant job for us, “pr-ing” our merger with David Roberts Domaines.

We tend to be a little sceptical about PR companies, but Gong have restored our faith – they provide an impressive service without any b******t. If you are looking for a PR company who are creative, smart and efficient we cannot recommend them highly enough.

The event took place a couple of weeks ago. Here is Harry’s view of the evening:

Our brief was to provide drinking wine, a small tasting and, most importantly, an expert speaker for the launch event of their new company Muse, at the Simon Dickinson Gallery on Jermyn Street.

Muse is a specialist communications agency where art and culture meets luxury. The theme of the evening was, fittingly, Diamonds versus Wine. Both corners were spoken for by leaders in their respective fields. Johnny spoke with usual eloquence and persuasion fighting the wine corner whilst Martyn Downer from Corfield Morris spoke for the “˜rocks’.

To the great surprise of the wine lovers manning the tasting table (myself included), the room was very evenly split following a great pair of speeches.

Whilst everyone continued to enjoy full glasses of Billaud-Simon’s Petit Chablis 2008 and Potel-Aviron’s Côtes de Brouilly 2007 the tasting table was also receiving a good amount of attention from the assembled party meanwhile the gorgeous Sarah Caddy modelled some stunning diamond jewellery from Hancocks.

On show at the tasting were:
Meursault Chevalieres Jean-Philippe Fichet 2007
Nuits St Georges 1er Clos des Forêts St Georges Domaine de l’Arlot 1999
Chateau Langoa Barton 3ème Cru St Julien 2002

All showed beautifully well splitting opinion as to which was best.
