With summer just around the corner, this is the perfect champagne to be drinking, whether treading the turf at the Polo, sipping at Royal Ascot, or simply relaxing at home on a summer’s evening. This well-crafted, affordable and hugely enjoyable Champagne will set you up for the season.

Moët save their vintage released for the best years; this is only the 72nd vintage produced in the house’s long history which dates to 1842. It is aged for seven years in the house’s cellars and is a balanced blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier; all of which excelled in 2008. Chef de Caves Benoit Gouez says, ‘what makes 2008 is the acidity in the ripe grapes, which has not been encountered at Moët since 1995 and 1996’. We could not agree more. Moët have crafted a complex wine which possesses powerful fruit and scintillating acidity in complete harmony.
“The vinous crowning glory was that so many producers were able to show their 2008s, easily Champagne’s best vintage since 2002.” Jancis Robinson

2008 for vintage Champagne will surely be seen as one of the legendary vintages in years to come. For any savvy Champagne buyer this pedigree at such a tempting price is very hard to ignore. Make sure you stock up for summer.

Citrus and honeysuckle notes emerge, entwined with hints of freshly baked pastry as the Champagne unfurls in the glass. This has a beautiful character. The palate is extremely fresh and shows graceful evolution. While the first sip echoes the citrus and honeysuckle aromatics, the mid-palate leads into creamy notes of brioche, toasted nuts and honey, intermingled with touches of smoke and slate minerals keeping a fresh focused edge. Possessing powerful fruit and scintillating acidity this has lovely complexity, which is beautifully balanced giving great lift on the long finish. Hugely enjoyable now. Drink 2017-2024+, Goedhuis &Co

Slightly reductive and gently toasty with more citrus fruits here and a tighter, more compressed and acid-fuelled palate. This has a very succulent, pulpy, bracing and crisp feel complemented by a super-refreshing finish. A great vintage for Moët. Drink now through to 2020+. A blend of 40% chardonnay, 37% pinot noir and 23% pinot meunier; the chardonnay definitely has a very assertive role here. 93 points, James Suckling
