We were delighted that Tamellini’s Recioto di Soave ‘Vigna Marogne’ 2007 (£23.50 per bottle) was written up in the Telegraph’s Food and Drink Supplement last weekend. A fantastic pairing suggestion of Roquefort and Treacle Tart. As a pudding wine similar to Sauternes, it is produced with noble rot but the Recioto’s settles in the grapes after they are cut and dried rather than on the outside before harvest. The results are however very similar with wonderful notes of honey, mirabelle confiture and even truffle.
With Christmas nearing, Decanter January 2012 has published a wine guide to accompany your Christmas Day feast, judged by a panel of top wine critics. The top red to to go with the turkey and trimmings was voted the Ch Branaire Ducru, St Julien 2000 (£61.67 per bottle):
‘Everything you want from a mature Bordeaux…it showed much better with the food, which evoked a much richer, autumnal fruit character in the wine.’
‘Elegant texture and balanced palate’ (Nicolas Clerc MS)
‘Flies through’ (Rowley Leigh)
Happy run up to Christmas…
